Newport-beach based Beacon Pointe Advisors has hired gatekeeper Stephen Marshall from Wilshire Associates as a director of its investment research department.
In his new role, Marshall is responsible for the firm’s asset allocation, where he will focus on portfolio modeling and construction, in addition to research and due diligence.
He will share the responsibility, among the other directors, of building and maintaining a list of 110 strategies used by the firm’s 30 advisors when recommending investments to high-net-worth clients.
He is part of a four-strong team of investment research directors, including Ellie Chizmarova, Jason Overholtzer and Derek Newcomer. He reports directly to Chizmarova.
Most recently, Marshall was head of asset allocation at Wilshire Consulting, where he was responsible for risk management of portfolios for institutional clients.
He was also instrumental in developing Wilshire’s cost-risk optimization and dynamic derisking models.
Garth Flint, chief executive of Beacon Pointe Advisors, said: ‘Stephen was exactly who we were looking for – his leadership and expertise will immediately add value to our clients, and Stephen will be a phenomenal addition to our research team.’
In September Beacon Pointe lost manager of investment research Mike Lambrakis, who left with advisor Matt Belfanti to set up his own advice firm with support from AdvicePeriod.
