VICE-PRESIDENT, TRADITIONAL DUE DILIGENCE
WHAT’S TOP OF YOUR TO-DO LIST RIGHT NOW?
Keeping up with all the DOL news and educating investors about sustainable investing.
WHAT IS KEEPING YOU AWAKE AT NIGHT (WORK WISE)?
Uncertainty surrounding the global political landscape and its effect on the markets.
WHAT WAS YOUR BESTSELLING FUND IN 2016?
In 2016 our bestselling fund was the Pimco Income fund managed by Dan Ivascyn and Alfred Murata.
WHAT’S THE BEST MEETING YOU’VE EVER HAD?
We were able to meet with Jeffrey Gundlach and Phil Barach of DoubleLine Capital in their ‘transition’ office after they had left TCW. Obviously meeting with the two portfolio managers is never dull but it was nice to be one of the first teams to sit down with them while they were in the process of building DoubleLine.
WHAT’S THE WORST MEETING YOU’VE EVER HAD?
The worst meeting was probably with a portfolio manager who basically took over our meeting, told us what questions we should be asking (some relative to his fund, some not), while avoiding our questions saying they didn’t matter. After he had finished his ‘prepared’ remarks, he stood up 30 minutes before the meeting was supposed to end, told us we knew what we needed to know, and left.
IF YOU WEREN’T DOING THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
I would like to coach football and basketball, and teach history back at my high school in Richmond, Virginia.
WHAT ARE YOUR INTERESTS / HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF WORK?
Staying active, reading, watching (mostly) college basketball and football, and travel
IF YOU COULD TRAVEL ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD IT BE?
Bora Bora, an island in French Polynesia, or Cairo, Egypt.
IF WE GAVE YOU $1,000, HOW WOULD YOU INVEST IT?
Given a longer-term outlook, I think I would place it in a small-cap emerging market equity strategy.
DO YOU HAVE ANY HIDDEN TALENTS?
No real hidden talents but I would be remiss not to mention that I’m clearly the best bowler on my team.
