SENIOR RESEARCH ANALYST
What’s top of your to do list right now?
Our team is focused on getting in front of Stifel’s financial advisors to tell our story behind manager due diligence as well as the construction of our recommended lists and model portfolios.
What is keeping you awake at night (work wise)?
Advisors selling strategies based on past performance. We refer to categories within our recommended list as flavors of ice cream found at Baskin Robbins. It is our duty to explain the styles of each recommendation to our advisors. Our story helps them understand when and why to use each strategy in order to pair the recommendation with the right type of client.
What was your bestselling fund last year?
Best meeting you’ve ever had?
I’d have to echo the thoughts of one of my industry peers and say I’m blown away by Will Danoff’s compassion for his investors every time I hear him speak. Our team is extremely focused on the human qualities of the individuals running money for our clients. We’re fortunate to have interviewed so many talented portfolio managers. Others on my best meeting ever list would have to include Michael Hasenstab, Justin Leverenz, John Linehan, Stephen Peak, Guy Pope, and George Shipp, to name a few.
Worst meeting you’ve ever had?
When our newly assigned research contact with a firm came in and basically read the strategy’s factsheet to our group.
If you weren’t doing this job, what would you be doing?
I would start my own company focused on manager due diligence and look to partner with so many of my peers that I’ve had the great privilege to meet in this industry. There is a strong need for third party manager research firms.
What are your interests / hobbies outside of work?
Nothing gets me up in the morning faster than fishing and picking, (for those of you that have seen American Pickers). I play tennis weekly and I’m a huge fan of my daughter!
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would it be?
My list of adventures abroad is quite long, but my top three spots in the states include Austin with family, the coasts of California with my beautiful wife and trails of Kentucky with good friends.
If we gave you $1,000, how / where would you invest it?
It seems like I’m always coming home to packages on the front porch. You know what they say, “If you can’t beat them, join them.” I’d invest $1,000 into the online industry giant with the best competitive advantage.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Well I can’t play the spoons, but I have a pretty good eye when it comes to collectibles and old records.
