The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 have risen, as a strong earnings season continued to buoy investor sentiment.
The Dow Jones was up 81 points at 20,486 while the S&P 500 rose eight points to 2,347.
According to Thomson Reuters analysis, profits of S&P 500 companies have risen by 10.8% in the quarter, the biggest jump since 2011.
American Express (AXP.N) led the way on the Dow, up 3.5% at $78.23 after a smaller-than-expected fall in first quarter profits.
Verizon (VZ.N) was among the fallers, down 1.6% at $48.16 as profits fell due to lost subscribers.
