Columbia Threadneedle has hired former Fidelity president Scott E. Couto to fill the newly-created role of head of North America.
Couto was most recently president of Fidelity Institutional Asset Management, a position he stepped away from in June last year.
In his new role at Columbia, Couto will be responsible for US intermediary distribution, product and marketing.
He reports to William Truscott, chief executive of Columbia Threadneedle, and is based in Boston, Massachusetts. He has also joined the executive leadership team of Ameriprise Financial.
‘Scott has a deep understanding of the asset management industry with significant experience spanning distribution, product and marketing,’ said Truscott. ‘He is a strong leader who cares deeply about delivering for clients.’
Couto was appointed president of Fidelity Institutional Asset Management in April 2016 after serving in a variety of roles during an eight-year career with the firm, including head of distribution, president of financial advisor solutions and vice president of investment product management.
He was succeeded in his role at Fidelity by Judy Marlinski, who was previously head of investment solutions and innovation.
