This quartet from Ashmore Group has ridden the emerging market debt recovery well, earning its first AAA rating. The team is ranked second out of the 77 Emerging Markets Hard Currency Debt managers tracked by Citywire for its three-year, risk-adjusted returns to the end of December 2017.
On a total return basis, the fund – which Ashmore subadvises for Pacific Life – ranks seventh out of 65 in the category, returning 27.2%. That’s well ahead of the category average of 19.1% and the iShares JPMorgan USD Emerging Markets Bonds ETF’s 20.9%.
The quartet, alongside another two managers, also runs the top-performing fund in the category, Ashmore Emerging Markets Short Duration, which was up a staggering 50.1%.

This duo has earned its first Citywire AAA rating, coming first out of 202 Large Cap Core managers tracked by Citywire for three-year, risk-adjusted returns to the end of December 2017.
On a total return basis over that time, Schermeyer and Tyburski were up 41.3% compared with the average Large Cap Core manager, who was up 30.7%, and Vanguard Russell 1000 Value Index ETF’s 27.7%.
In their most recent annual report, Schermeyer and Tyburski linked strong performance to their screening process in the industrials and healthcare sectors, an underweight to energy and an overweight to information technology.

In total return terms, he was up 46.7% compared with the average Small Cap Core manager’s 29.1% and the iShares Russell 2000 ETF’s 33.1%. Recent performance has been boosted by the fund’s positions in Pegasystems, a customer relationship management software developer, and top holding communications equipment company Arista Network.
Underweights to the consumer discretionary and real estate investment trust sectors have also helped.
